Cornell University crowned 2009 NECHL Playoff ChampionsThe Cornell University Big Red Ice Hockey team beat Rutgers University last night in dramatic fashion, scoring a goal with 29.7 seconds left in a 2-2 barn-burner. Tonight, they beat Penn State-Berks 5-3 in a game not decided until the last 60 seconds.
"Penn State has been a dominant force this season in the NECHL and they will represent the league at the ACHA D-1 Nationals later this month with the autobid", stated NECHL Commissioner Andy Gojdycz. "They have had a great season and have shown the rest of the ACHA that they are a force to be reckoned with. Cornell showed us that they would stop at nothing without a playoff championship. Their play this weekend showed non-stop heart and work-ethic. Congrats again to Cornell on a great playoff run".
The Playoff MVP award went to Cornell's Trevor Downy, who had 3 points on the evening.
