BearCats beat Rutgers; Kanter named Tourney MVP

The Binghamton BearCats were outshot 34 to 26 in today's championship game, however David Kanter stood on his head to secure the shutout.

Peter Hilliger started the scoring for Binghamton in the first period with a short-handed goal, splitting both D, and getting by Rutgers goalie Adam Huff. Both teams remained scoreless in the second period as Rutgers outshot Binghamton 18 to 6, but it was Kanter that stood in the way of the Ice Knights.

In the third stanza, Walker, Goodwine and Mangino solidified the win and captured Binghamton's 1st Tri-State Cup as the 2009-10 NECHL Playoff Champion.

Leading into the finals, Game #1 had Cornell defeating Penn State Berks 4-2. Game #2 saw Cortland topping Oswego State 3-1. Game #3 had Rutgers skating by Cortland 3-1 and finally in Game #4, Binghamton's come from behind victory against Cornell, which ended in dramtic overtime fashion, 4-3.

Congrats again to Binghamton University for its first NECHL Playoff title.
